Day 38 - Friday 13th July - Taupo to Mahia Beach

Another glorious day here in sunny New Zealand, after a pretty cold night!!

We pretty much just drove today with few stops, as there wasn't too much to see or do en route.

The first part of the drive was along highway 5 or the Thermal Explorer Highway (not that there was much thermal exploring to be done in these parts!!). It was a scenic drive though through valleys, over hills with mountains and later sea in the far distance. We briefly stopped at a waterfall lookout point.

At the end of the highway 5 we headed north up the coast on highway 2 or the Pacific Coast Highway and stopped at Lake Tutira lakeside for some lunch.

Beautiful NZ countryside

Lovely rolling scene

Amazing river gorge

After lunch we continued to Wairoa a small town, the first "town" we had seen all day to pick up some information. Not a lot was to be seen here so we continued to the Mahia Peninsular as we knew there was a campsite next to the beach.

Mahia Peninsular is stunning from what we have seen thus far but that's only really Mahia Beach where we walked and watched the sunset :)
