Day 31 - Friday 6th July - Upper Hutt "Isengard" to Carterton via "Rivendell" and "Dimholt Road"

Today has been a pretty wet day weather wise...but we continued our Lord of the Rings Hogan Special Tour.

As we'd arrived at our campsite at Harcourt Park AKA "Isengard" in twilight last night, we had a wander around this morning. It is used for the scene when Gandalf arrives at Isengard to see Saruman.

From here we drove into Upper Hutt for supplies before driving on to "Rivendell" or Kaitoke National Park.

As we drove to our next Lord of the Rings destination we were driving towards the coast and Cape Palliser and the sun came out for us. :) The next destination was "Dimholt Road" or Putangirua Pinnacles. It was an hour walk from the car park up a wide, steep sided, flat valley riverbed. Unfortunately due to the heavy rain we had had the river was quite full and in fast flow and the path had been diverted across the river due to a big rock fall so we could get no further to "Dimholt Road" but we could just see the top of one of the pinnacles in the distance.

Our return trip took us to the town of Carterton where we will spend the night. On the way here there were some spectacular rainbows and sun patterns through the clouds.
