Day 15 - Wednesday 20th June - Southern Scenic Route - Tuatapere to Lake Gunn nr Milford Sound

Today we did the last of the Southern Scenic Route again in the drizzle and low cloud. It us beautiful but keep wondering what is lurking behind those clouds which is even more beautiful.

Our first stop was Lake Monowai which was off the main route 20km on a gravel track. Mainly a fishing lake but so beautifully calm and quiet.

We continued to the towns of Manapouri and Te Anau where we stocked up on diesel and supplies before we continued northward into the Fiordland National Park towards Milford Sound.

On the Milford Road towards the town there are lots of very cheap and basic Department of Conservation campsites, so we stopped at the last of these next to Lake Gunn. The campsite is on the shoreline overlooking the lake. This is our first night at a non-powered campsite so I'm thinking it'll be a cold one!!!
